Safety officer (with white marking) checking the gun for line with his prismatic compass.
The gun position seems to be near Imjin Camp in the Moawhanga River Valley at Waiouru, New Zealand.
The ordnance is traversed far to the left, and the spades appear to have dug in unevenly. The Gun Number One would be ready, if necessary, to shift the trails to centre the ordnance in its top traverse.
Note the wooden ammunition boxes stacked at the left rear. Each box carried two US M1 rounds in cylindrical cardboard tubes and weighed around 45 kg (100 lb).
