The War Memorial on the corner of State Highway 2 and Waverly St contains a 105-mm German field gun of 1913 vintage. It was captured by New Zealand units of 1 NZEF during World War 1. In 1981 it was restored and presented to the Waipawa community on Anzac Day 1982.
