The FK 16 replaced the C96 introduced in 1896. It featured the same breech block as the earlier model but had a barrel about two feet longer, fired a heavier charge, and ranged about 2000 yards further. The gun was mounted upon the 10.5-cm howitzer carriage shown in Figure 2. |

When rescued from the scrap heap the wheels were missing. Those fitted are from an old agricultural implement. At one time old cart wheels - and old gun wheels - were keenly sought as decorations for gateways. Provision was made for the fitting of a platform similar to those fitted to the 25-pr to provide easy traverse for 360°. The 1916 model of the 7.7-cm field gun was mounted upon the same carriage as the 10.5-cm howitzer and would have appeared very similar. The 7.7-cm equipment described above is situated on the property of Mr James H. Te Tuhi, 27 Clean St, Te Kopuru, Northland. Details and photographs were kindly supplied by Major J. McL.
