In the spring of 1865, the costs of provisions in and around Denver had skyrocketed.* Here are some examples:
- Flour: $20 per hundred
- Potatoes: $15 per bushel
- Corn: $10 per bushel
- Beef: 40 cents per pound
- Ham: 50 cents per pound
- Eggs: $1.50 per dozen
- Hay: $100 per ton
- Wood: $75 per cord
- Lumber: $200 per thousand
- Wagon and team: $25 per day
