Shell Island
Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut


At low tide Shell Island is connected to Calves Island by a sand-spit.


History:

after WWI  -- the island was bought by a German; he built a large circular stone tower for his home.

World War II  -- the German was suspected of cooperating with the Nazis.

1990   --  the island was given to the Greenwich Land Trust as a wildlife preserve.
