1968  --  town buys the property with federal and state aid.

Habitats:
woods, marsh, small ponds, river

Trails:

There are 5.8 miles of trails. The trails are accessible to the handicapped. The main trail also hooks up with the Dan Beard Tail across Route 53 and a little south.

There is a bridge over the Saugatuck River. Off the main trail the Falls Trails is on the right (west). The Old Field Trail is on the right (east). Heading further on the main trail, once again the Old Field Trail comes up on the left. It is a circular walk in this part of the natural area.

The Saugatuck Falls trails follows the river until it reaches the falls (falling through a narrow gorge in the rocks). It is a pretty walk. The rocks on the cliffs on the left have tumbled down on top of each other leaving little caves everywhere. Beautiful shades of green are created by the green moss and the many species of ferns, especially rock cap fern.
