2002 (4/04)  --  the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced an award of $950,000 to the Land Trust of Darien from the Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Grant Program: the grant to be applied towards the purchase of 5.8 acres.

Susan Cheswick Brewer and Bruce Orr co-chaired a $3.8 million fundraising campaign to preserve the historic meadows.

The Land Trust of Darien, together with the Trust for Public Land, successfully completed the campaign and acquired Mather Meadows in 2004.

10/31/2005.  Stopped for just a minute because the meadow had already been mowed and therefore there were not many identifiable plants in the field.  The meadow is a wide football field sized plot with lots of sugar maples on the borders and stone walls on 3 sides.  Dr. Patrick L. Cooney.
