Directions:

There are two town ferryboats that take beachgoers back and forth to the island during the summer time. The ferryboat pier is at the bottom of Greenwich Harbor at the landing at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park.

South Arch Street ferry area, 3,500 ft. from Great Captains’ Island. Make a left onto Soundview Drive to Arch Street; turn right; go under Railroad Bridge and I-95 bridge; after traffic light make a right turn into the Island Beach parking area.

History:

1912  -- a private amusement park opened on the island.

World War I  --  a son of the Lauder family, George Lauder, Jr., was killed and in his honor the family gave the island to the town.

bar, covered shelters, (one formerly a carousel), dressing rooms and restrooms.
