Kelda/BHC Water Company Properties

27 towns, Litchfield County, Connecticut

The largest acreages are at Mt. Riga in Salisbury, Wangum Lake in Falls Village/Canaan, and the Saugatuck and Aspetuck reservoirs in Easton, Weston, Redding, and Fairfield.

Wangum Lake lies between the 2,500-acre Canaan Mountain Natural Area Preserve and the 7,000-acre Great Mountain Forest (Connecticut's largest privately-owned forest).

After more than two years of negotiations, Connecticut's Department of Environmental Protection (CTDEP) and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) have signed an agreement with the Kelda/BHC Water Company to preserve the company's 15,340 acres in western Connecticut.

Worth $193 million, the land or easements thereon will be sold for $90-98 million (depending on the payment schedule), with the company donating about $103 million in land in exchange for $20 million in federal/state tax breaks.
