Directions:

Gallows Hill Road CL&P transmission line. Opposite side of the road from the following description for Gallows Hill Natural Area.

The easiest way to get there is to go Lonetown to Gallows Hill Road, the CL&P transmission lines are approximately 1.5 miles from Lonetown Road, parking in not possible so the best bet is to park on the road about 75 yards from the trail head. From Route 53 enter Gallows Hill Road, the CL&P transmission lines are approximately .5 miles from Route 53, parking in not possible so the best bet is to park on -- Road about 75 yards before the trail head.

Or:

Heading north on Route 7, turn right onto Route 107.  Drive 2.6 of a mile to the intersection with Route 53 at the stop sign.  Keep going straight on Route 53 and drive .9 of a mile and park at the John Read Middle School on the right. 

History:

Dan Beard, founder of the Boy Scouts of America and illustrator of Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, lived for a while in Redding, CT.

Reeve Biggers (1913-1992) was chairman of the Redding Conservation Commission from 1985 to 1992. 

Trails:

There are 1.2 miles of trail.  From the parking area walk south a bit to pick up the white Dan Beard Trail.  The Reeve Bigger Trail heads off of the circular Dan Beard Trail.  It heads northeast to Gallows Hill Road where it hooks up with the Gallows Hill Natural Area trails.

The Dan Beard Trail also connects with the Sagautuck Falls Natural Area trails (across Route 53) from the middle school.
