Bamberger's Department Store in Newark, circa 1928. At one time it was the largest department store in New Jersey, and the fourth highest grossing store in America. WOR Radio began as an arm of Bamberger's advertisement department as a tool to sell radios. The broadcast studio was in the store, and customers could watch it in action. WOR later became one of the most important and innovative stations in the New York area. The building still stands at the corner of Market and Washington Streets.
