Virginia Daughters to the Rescue !

State Regent of the Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution initiates drive for Chapters to contribute the financial backing to replace the
"Washington-Rochambeau Route to Victory" Display
Outside Historic Mount Vernon, Virginia.

Mary Jane Davis, Virginia DAR State Regent, inspecting The Washington-Rochambeau Route to Victory' display as it looks today, outside Historic Mount Vernon.

Virginia DAR State Regent, Mary Jane Davis, visited the site in 2003, and was appalled that such a prominent, educational display of historic information is in such disrepair. She is proposed that the Virginia Daughters take the lead and support the cost of replacing the display immediately, and submitted a letter to the Executive Director of Mount Vernon expressing such an offer. Under the dynamic leadership of Carol P. Howerton, VADAR State Chairman for W3R, the State DAR Chapters quickly responded with a generous donation to this cause.

With the Virginia Daughters' financial gift, Mount Vernon has contracted for the construction of a replacement of the 'Washington-Rochambeau Route to Victory Display' [see below], and has assumed responsibility for its upkeep. A Fall 2004 date is expected to be announced for a ceremony to mark the replacement.

Background for this initiative is provided at the Expdition Particulire Commemorative Cantonment Society webpage on The Washington-Rochambeau Route to Victory' Display.
