This is a selection of photos from our recent expedition to the five-day Millenium Special War & Peace Show in Beltring, Kent. In no particular order, these capture the essence of this amazing show, and represent the perspectives of the individual photographers, who are credited accordingly (uncredited photos are the property of MLU).

A typical parade around the arena, this one ('Britain Stands Alone') of a selection of early British and lend-lease vehicles. Centre rear is Dave Ballard's superb Canadian Ford F15A with 20mm Polsten antiaircraft gun on its British-made wooden bed. Standing regally in the roof hatch is none other than your host here at MLU...

Mike Ebeling's outstanding Canadian Otter Recce Car. He built this vehicle from an almost unrecognizeable wreck some 15 years ago, and has driven it 18,000 miles since then. Stowage and attention to detail is without equal.

Another view of the Otter. The entire rear section was hand-constructed based upon detailed plans drawn up by the owner. Mike Ebeling is one of the nicest guys in the business, and his dedication is truly awe-inspiring.

A defacto HUP collection, with owners. Left to right - FHO 251 Michael Byrne, UK; CSK 336 Rick Curtis, UK; HUP 044 Daniel Van Nieuwenhuysse, Belgium; FCG 754 James Baxter, UK. Richard Curtis took the Best Canadian Vehicle Award at the show; his newly restored HUW, fully equipped down to the chorehorse, is superb!

The same from the left. Somehow, all four HUs just 'showed up' at the MLU camp; we made some space and just backed them in for the photo session! GWB has never seen Mr. Gough so excited. :-)

It was just great to see all of these together, and we've plans to do something similar with ALL Canadian vehicles next year...

Nigel Watson poses self-conciously beside his early carrier after a long trek from Scotland. I caught him by surprise here...

The carrier is painted in the colours of the Indian Army, with whom his father served as an officer. Not seen is the nice Vickers-Berthier mounted in the commander's position... Nigel took us for rides, and we stood out well from the mass of olive drab! Good job, Nigel, hope to see you again next year...

None other than that with five cylinder blocks incorporating 30 cylinders - the legendary Chrysler A57 Multibank engine. It sounds like nothing else you've ever heard... Carl Brown arrived Friday evening with his newly-operational Sherman M4A4, one of three such known to exist. More pics to come shortly...
The business end of Pete Ashby's outstanding 12-cab C15A, which won Best Medium, Best Self-Restored At Show and runner-up as Best Canadian Vehicle. Pete, well-done, and congratulations!
The left side of Pete's C15A. His 2B1 box was made from scratch according to planms drawn from an original. Even the welds are in the right place and of the right type and consistency...
A 12-cab gun tractor owned by persons unknown. I never did see anyone at this site at any given time, although I spoke to a kid once and passed along my business card. This came with a nice limber and 25 pounder as well...
David Russell's beautiful Mk.VII Churchill Crocodile. It ran in the Arena each day, a true pleasure to behold!
Alan Tooes in his Canadian Dodge T212. This vehicle is for sale, BTW... contact GWB if you're interested. It drives very nicely indeed...
Nigel Hay (right) sucks GWB (top) into saying a few words to the crowd. Caught me by surprise, did our Nigel! A very patient Dave Ballard waits stoically behind the wheel of his lovely F15A as I make a fool of myself...

Hanno Spoelstra, the Scammell driver! In his first time ever behind the wheel of this behemoth, Hanno pulls two others to demonstrate the legendary prowess of these amazing trucks. Canadians used Scammells throughout the war as well, for little jobs like pulling the powerpacks from tanks out in the field. There were five at Beltring this year...

A Parachute Regiment veteran performs in front of a rapt audience of school children. There were numerous WW2 vets in attendance at Beltring, most only too happy to talk for hours on their experiences. This is one aspect of their education these children will not forget.
