OPERATING CONTROLS

Passenger Operation - The engine runs at constant 960 rpm regardless of throttle position. The throttle varies the excitation level.

Reverse Handle

The Reverse handle has FORWARD, OFF, and REVERSE positions. The handle is removable in OFF position when the throttle handle is in IDLE position.

DEVICES ON CONTROL CONSOLE (Figure 1)

The following operating devices are located on the control console :

M.U. Emergency Shutdown Switch

This switch has two positions, STOP and RUN. The normal position is RUN. When this switch is turned to STOP, the diesel engine on all units in multiple-unit locomotive consist will shut down.

This switch is provided for emergency use only. Normal shutdown should be made by moving the throttle to IDLE, the engine control switch (EC) to START, and depressing the STOP button on the engine control panel.

After an emergency shutdown, the engine control switch (EC) must be moved to START and the engine(s) must be started in the normal manner.

Manual Transition Switch (Freight Service Only)

The manual transition switch is a multi-position switch used to control transition when operating in multiple operation with locomotives having non-compatable transition features. Operation will be as directed by railroad rules.
