HOBOKEN TERMINAL
PASSENGER CONCOURSE AND WAITING ROOM
RENOVATION PROJECT FACT SHEET

Project Description

Beginning this October and continuing for approximately ten months, NJ TRANSIT will renovate the Passenger Concourse and Waiting Room at Hoboken Terminal.

Improvements to the Concourse will include the creation of a new Food Court in the current location of the Railhead Bar, construction of a new Customer Service Office on the far end of the Concourse near the NY Waterway Ferry Terminal, and replacement of the storefronts along the Concourse with material that complements the historic aspects of Hoboken Terminal. Renovation work inside the Waiting Room will include repairs to the walls, ceiling, Grand Staircase, and restoration of the stained glass skylight.

This project will be conducted in two main phases with two scopes of work in each phase. Work will be performed primarily on weekdays between 7:00am and 5:00pm. During this time, passengers may continue to purchase items from many of the vendors.

Hoboken Terminal was built in 1907 and is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Hoboken Terminal was once a busy hub for Ellis Island immigrants traveling by train to western portions of the country, as well as travelers to and from New York City. Today, the terminal plays a vital role in New Jersey's transportation system. The terminal is a transportation center for the northern portion of the state and is served by several NJ TRANSIT bus and rail lines, PATH and NY Waterway Ferry.
