Illustrierte Criminal Zeitung

an issue from 1915 showing a battle in Russia

'Das Illustrierte Criminal Zeitung' (the Illustrated Cime Magazine) presented itself as a 'family magazine'. Generally though it was modeled on French sensationalist magazines such as 'le Petit Journal' or 'le Petit Parisien'. Cover pages were printed with a large sized eye-catching illustration. In France these were done in bright and lavish color drawings. 'Das illustrierte Criminal Zeitung' apparently had to make do with simple grey-tone illustrations. The inside pages were full of text and articles, in some way or another related to war news, though usually of the more anecdotal kind. For hard facts and reliable reporting, this was not the magazine to purchase.
