'Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung'

a Weekly Illustrated Magazine

The 'Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung' is not to be confused with the like sounding title 'Leipziger illustrirte Zeitung'. The latter was a very stylish and lavishly illustrated magazine featuring many colored illustrations. The 'Berliner' was however more of a popular magzine, printed solely in black and white on rather poor quality paper. It offered a large number of photographs, illustrations, text articles along with advertising. As the war wore on into 1916 and later, the war-contnt of the magazine was reduced and more everyday articles found their way into the magazine. Photographs were on the whole originals, not the usual news-agency material.
