- The battle of Haelen occured during the Belgian retreat
from Liege to Antwerp.
- German forces were unexpectedly routed by a Belgian
detachment. It was not a large scale engagement
- but being a Belgian victory, much was made of it in the
British press and in Belgium after the war.
