The Gillette Company set
up nearly two dozen televison sets in the Boston Common.
The promotion was in conjunction with WBZ-TV. The event, the 1948
World Series,
featuring the Boston Braves and the Cleveland Indians.
This section of Boston
was still utilizing DC as it's primary electrical utility.
AC power had to be brought in to power the television sets.
In the late 60's, some
sections of Boston were still using DC .
While at WEEI, I remember covering a news conference at 600
Washington Street.
When I plugged my Ampex 601 into the wall outlet, it would not
work.
I was told that I was connected to a DC outlet, an extension had
to be run across the hallway.
