MILITARY DODGES- HISTORY:

    In 1940 the Army ordered some 1/2 ton 4x4 light trucks with several body styles, and so to the standard civilian VC prefix was added a number (1 through 6) to denote that the truck was a military model and to differentiate each type from the others. These vehicles had civilian fenders and front end sheet metal, and are very rare today! Late in 1940 (the 1941 model year) Dodge began to produce all-military design trucks that utilized some redesigned running gearand had military sheet metal. Each vehicle was denoted by the standard civilian 1941 1/2 ton truck prefix, WC, to which was added a numerical suffix (1-27, 40-43) to denote that the truck was a military model and the particular combination of engine, winch and body style.
    When the newly-designed 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks entered production, the model designation "WC" that had been used for the 1/2 tons was simply continued. These new vehicles were designated by model numbers WC-51 through WC-61 and WC-64. 1 1/2 ton 6x6 trucks were also built during this period, and these were given the model numbers of WC-62 (w/o winch) and WC-63 (w/ winch). The 3/4 ton WC-64 KD (knockdown) ambulance was the last of the WWII Dodge-built all-wheel-drive trucks.
