Some Good Memories

  • We were allowed to visit the farm and go wading in the brook until my sister cut the bottom of her foot, which stopped that trip.

  • Going to a Yankee game every year.

  • Going to Camp Columbus (location unknown) for two weeks every year.

  • Going to Avon-by-the-Sea for a day every year.

  • Christmas through the eyes of a child: We were allowed to write a letter to Santa Clause and ask for three things. When Christmas came we had three parties and received what we had asked for. This idea stayed with me because each year I told my kids the same thing and they received the three main items they wanted, along with a lot of other things.

  • Going into town to the General Store for candy. It was not that often the nuns would take us there, which is probably why I remember it as being so special. That is the only ocassion I remember having any relationship with the town itself. We were kept very isolated and to ourselves. When we were at St. Michaels there were 300 children living there.
