Partial abstract of 12 October 1780 letter from Otho H. Williams to Maryland Governor Thomas Sim Lee
  • Encloses best return he can obtain of Maryland troops.
  • Many shown as missing are likely dead or prisoners.
  • Some officers are in Maryland recruiting. Others are waiting for return of more of their troops.
  • Lost many of their arms during retreat from Camden besides those taken from 150 MD and DE troops later retaken by Marion.
  • Of 150 retaken by Marion, only 60 returned. Some of those not returning were sick, but most simply left.
  • Maryland soldiers have acute shortage of clothing and tents.
  • Notes that the Board of War had declined to grant additional commissions, so he cannot commission volunteer Roger Nelson (to fill a vacancy in the 6th Rgt.) who had served during the entire campaign and had been wounded and captured at Camden.
  • Notes that he sent a similar letter to Delware Gov. Caesar Rodney.
