HEROUVILLETTE NEW COMMUNAL CEMETERY

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Herouvillette was attacked and taken by the main body of 2nd Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (Airborne) on 6th June 1944. All of the casualties here are from 6th (Airborne) Division, the majority of them from 2nd Oxs & Bucks and from 12th (Yorkshire) Bn Parachute Regiment. There is a memorial to 2nd Oxs and Bucks on the main wall outside the cemetery.

LOCATION

Herouvillette is on the main road D513 from Caen to Cabourg. From Caen turn right at the church, down a lane alongside the local War Memorial. Continue for approximately 90 metres to reach the cemetery on the left. There is parking alongside and all of the graves are together to the right of the main entrance.

- Killed 10th June 1944, age 26.
- Awarded George Medal.
