MONTE CASSINO WAR MUSEUM

The Military Shop and Cassino War Museum complex 2004

This new museum opened in time for the 60th Anniversary of the Battle in May 2004. It is located in an 'industrial park' type complex on the outskirts of Monte Cassino, next door to the Military Shop. Both are signposted on the road. The museum is upstairs, in a complex that includes a cafe/restaurant. There doesn't appear to be any set opening times; when we visited in May 2004 the cafe owner just opened the door to the displays for us on demand.

The main display area was full of photos and maps, plus militaria and items found on the battlefield. There was also a good model of the monastery. Highly recommended, and one hopes it will be a permanent feature.
