MEMORIAL MUSEUM PASSCHENDAELE, ZONNEBEKE
Entrance to the Museum 2005
Formerly the 'Streekmuseum', this re-opened in 2004 as the 'Memorial Museum Passchendaele'. It is housed in the old Zonnebeke chateau in the heart of the 1917 Passchendaele battlefield and tells the story of the fighting in this area during the four years of the war. There are many photos, uniforms and artifacts on display, and a re-constructed trench and WW1 dugout. This is very impressive, but the stair down into it are very steep and if you have walking difficulties or are disabled, there is currently no access (a lift is planned). The museum also has a small bookshop and toilets.
The museum is open from Monday to Friday 10.00 - 18.00, and Saturdays and Sundays between 14.00 - 16.00. It is closed in December and January. Entrance is 5 Euros per person, or 3 Euros for groups.
There are many special events here
every year, including an annual Living History event.
