HISTORY

This was a burial site used by British troops during the fighting on the Aisne in September 1914. Among those buried here is Lieutenant Colonel Dawson Warren, commanding 1st Bn Queen's Regiment, who was sniped while he and Captain & Adjutant C.E.Wilson (buried next to him) on 17th September 1914. Warren had been commissioned in 1885, and fought in Burma 1885-87. He then served for some time in India, until he was given commanded of 1st Queen's in March 1913. Wilson had fought in the Boer War, where he was mentioned in despatches. Following his death, his family received the Legion D'Honneur given for bravery in the 1914 campaign. 

LOCATION

The village of Paissy is approximately 27 kilometres east of Soissons, between the river Aisne and the 'Chemin des Dames', off the D967 at Vendresse. The churchyard contains the graves of 5 soldiers who fell in September 1914, which are located in the rear left hand side of the churchyard.
