Welcome to The Old Front Line web site.
This is a new site dedicated to the history and battlefields of the Great War 1914-1918. It aims to provide you with information about the war itself and on how to visit the battlefields in France and Flanders - and what to see.
My name is Paul Reed. I am a military historian with over twenty years interest in the Great War, the author of several books in the 'Battleground Europe' series published by Pen & Sword (including the best-selling Walking The Somme) and I now live here on the battlefields of the Somme. Over the years I have assembled a large archive of Great War material, documents, photos and first hand accounts - much of it has never before been in print. I hope to share some of this with you via the medium of The Old Front Line.
The site also contains details of my work as a Battlefield Guide, my company Sommecourt Battlefield Tours, and the tours I organise in conjunction with Leger Holidays.
