HISTORY
Divisional Cemetery, Dickebusch Road, Vlamtinghe, was started in 1914 by Belgian troops, but the cemetery was first used by British units at the end of April 1915. It remained in use until May 1916 and was then reopened in July 1917 for Third Ypres, and used chiefly by Artillery units - which is very much reflected in the burials here. It contains the graves of 188 soldiers from the United Kingdom, 65 from New Zealand, 26 from Canada, one from Bermuda, and three whose unit in our forces cannot be ascertained, and two Belgian soldiers. In Grave 18, Row C, there are buried 23 men of the 2nd Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment who fell on the 5th May 1915, during the German gas attack on Hill 60. New Zealand graves from the winter of 1917/18 account for nearly a third of the total burials.
LOCATION
Divisional Cemetery is located roughly 2 KM west of Ypres town centre. From Ypres take the Poperingseweg (N308) going west in the direction of Poperinghe. Cross the railway line and after about 1 KM take the left hand turning onto Omloopstraat; it is signposted at this junction. The cemetery is then located 100 meters further along the Omloopstraat on the right hand side of the road.GRAVES OF INTEREST
