By 1783, Alline had reached an unprecedented popularity in nearly all of the outsettlements and was the undisputed leader of a major religious revival (Stewart & Rawlyk 140) He used the splintered state of the colony as a platform for his message. He unified the people through his sermons, and through his leadership. He had established himself as a charismatic leader and as such he became an agent for initiating change in some of the cultural values of Nova Scotian society (Ibid 140). The people placed their confidence in Alline as their new leader. The once shattered colony of Nova Scotia now had a confident leader, who would ultimately lead them towards neutrality.
