Richard Gassan lives in Amherst, Massachusetts and is a graduate student at the University of Massachusetts there. He is a newcomer to the History of the Book, and this piece is his first significant research in that field. He is currently conducting further research on Carey, Lea & Blanchard's business cycle; the results of that paper will be available in the Winter of 1996-97 (in time for Christmas).
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a Master's in Historical Geography, both from Ohio University.
