Knoxville, as the major city of East Tennessee, was served by three railroads: the East Tennessee & Georgia (from Chattanooga), the East Tennessee & Virginia (to Bristol), and the shortline Knoxville & Kentucky (to Clinton--this modest railroad was also known as the East Tennessee & Kentucky). As shown in the above map extracted from the Official Records Atlas, the three railroads converged on a common area just to the north of the city, and included a complex of sidings as well as a turntable.
