Located in Nashville, this engine and boiler making establishment
employed about sixty hands. The owners, W. D. Ellis and C. C. Moore,
had the foundry cast two sample iron 6-pounders in late May 1861.
About the same time, the State of Tennessee contracted with the establishment
for a battery of four 6-pounders and two 12-pounder howitzers, along with
shot and shell. Although Federals did capture a 6-pounder at Fort
Zollicoffer marked "Ellis & CO. Nashville," the company vouchers indicate
that no guns were ever delivered to the Confederate Government.
