WKBW Radio
Transmitter Information

WKBW radio's original powerhouse was a hand built Westinghouse 100,000 watter initially designed for the armed forces in WW-II. It took so long to design and build them, that the War was over before the complete order could be filled. The Government cancelled the contract which left Westinghouse with several completed transmitters and nowhere to put them. Someone got the idea to re-strap the power supply so the unit would run at 50,000 watts. They sold the 8 or 9 transmitters they had to WBZ, CKLW, WKBW, WJR and others. WWKB radio's present system consists of two Harris 50's, a DX and HX model and a RCA 10,000 watt stand-by built around the mid 1960's.
