Projects for modernisation of the 107 mm gun model 1910 developed by Orudijno-Arsenalnyi Trest (OAT) and design bureau NTK GAU. The main purpose of all those attempts was to increase the gun's range up to 1618 km. By their projects two experimental guns were built:

  • the NTK GAU's design had the 38 clb barrel, the muzzle brake, and re-bored chamber to accept a new long-range round. It's recommended using a separate loading round with increased charge. Besides, to counterbalance the barrel there was a 300-kg bob that was fitted under the gun-cradle.
  • the OAT's gun had 37.5 clb barrel and the muzzle brake. To compensate the imbalance of the gun the gun-cradle was miniaturized, plus the weight of the block-breech was significantly increased.

    Both guns were tested. They fired projectiles with 700 m/s muzzle velocity. Both guns were good enough. The final project was based on these guns with some additional improvements:

  • the barrel's length was increased on 10 clb;
  • the new 25% muzzle brake was used;
  • the chamber was lengthen;
  • the separate loading was accepted;
  • a new long-range round was accepted;
  • the gun-cradle was shorten on 160 mm, two additional bobs were fitted on the block-breech and on the gun-cradle.

    Total of 139 old 107-mm guns model 1910 were modernised. After that they were named "107 mm gun model 1910/30". All these guns remained in the English system. At the same time, all new guns (total 430), which were manufactured by the same project, were re-calculated in the Metric system and were named "107 mm gun 1910/30n". Besides, in 1932-1935 the "Bolshevik" and the "Barrikady" factories manufactured barrels and gun-cradles for the 107-mm guns. Also they re-bored all existing old 107-mm guns. By the 1st July 1941, total of 863 107 mm guns model 1910/30(n) served in the Red Army.

    The new (or modernised) gun had a 25% muzzle brake, a piston-breech and a slightly altered gun-carriage that was initially taken from the Shneider's gun. The gun could be supplied with either steel or wooden wheels. Both types of wheels were of the same diameter of 1250 mm, the steel wheel had a rubber tyre of 120x14 mm.

    The gun's limber could accept 42 rounds. Curiously, that the limber had shock-absorbers so it could be moved with 30-35 km/h. At the same time, the gun itself didn't have any shock-absorbers.

    The usage of old single loading 107-mm ammo was prohibited because a projectile always burst inside the barrel. Also, the shooting with full charge was prohibited if gun didn't have a muzzle brake. The usage of full charge together with HE, shrapnel and smoke D-422U projectiles.
