ORDER OF THE RED STAR

Designers: artist V.K.Kuprianov, sculptor V.V.Golenetskiy The order was instituted April 6, 1930. The first Statute of the order was approved May 5, 1930. It indicated that decoration with the order is made "for exceptional service at the cause of the defense of the Union of SSR both in war and peace time." The specifics of the decoration with the Order of the Red Star were later on modified multiple times. In the years of the Great Patriotic War the Order of the Red Star became one of the most widely distributed awards: more than 2 million people were awarded 2,860,000 orders. Together with the Order of the Patriotic War it made up the so called "officers' set": a set of decorations available to junior officers - platoon and company commanders. .
