The PPS-43 was designed by A.I. Sudaev at the end of 1942 in blockaded Leningrad. At the beginning this SMG was only supplied to Leningrad defenders with overall production of 46572 pieces. In 1943, after minor modifications PPS-43 was accepted for service in Red Army under designation "7,62-mm submachinegun Sudaev system 1943. (PPS-43)". PPS-43 had better consistency of fire then that of PPD and PPSh.
