The gun was designed by the KB (design bureau) of Factory No.8
under the direction of G.D.Dorokhin by placing
the 85mm barrel on the carriage of a 76mm ZK AA gun Model 1931. The barrel had
to be equiped with a muzzle
brake. During the tests of the first serial models, a number of defects were
found. As a result, it was proposed to
use the carriage of the 76mm AA gun Model 1938, and a number of other small
changes. The new gun was tested,
and in the summer of 1940 it was accepted into service with the designation
of 52-P-365. Nevertheless, the vast
majority of documents do not distinguish between the two systems and call both
of them "85mm anti-aircraft gun
model 1939." The guns were only produced by the Factory No.8 (Kalinin factory).
