Leroy W. Blankenship |
Return-Path:
With respect to the crew lists, I served on the "Mighty Mac" from July, 1968
(I joined the ship while it was visiting Istanbul, Turkey) until March, 1970
(debarked in Charleston, SC):
Name: Leroy W. Blankenship
Duties: Assistant First Lieutenant, Assistant Personnel Officer; JOOD,
CICWO, QWO
Mac made 2 Med cruises and 2 Springboard cruises while I was assigned.
Noted the following in the Mac's history:
"August 15, 1969
"MACDONOUGH joins HMS AURORA and French Navy Ship LA GALISSONIERE
for assault re-enactment at Theoule, France for the 25th anniversary
of Operation Dragoon, allied landings in southern France on 15 August 1944.
The ship's honor guard and a 35 man marching unit participate in
ceremonies ashore."
I served as the CO of the Honor Guard for the parade and ceremonies.
Although it was very cold during the ceremonies, which were conducted
entirely in French, we were very well received. Following the ceremonies,
the honor guard was hosted at a small restaurant to a wonderful meal.
I can be contacted at [email protected].
Following my tour on Mac, I was assigned to USS ANTELOPE (PG-86) as
XO/NAV/OPS/COMM/PERS/SWO/RPS Custodian. I resigned my commission in July
1972, attended Univ of Southern Calif Law Center, received my JD in May
1975, and was admitted to practice law in California in December 1975. I am
currently Assistant County Counsel for the County of Monterey and reside in
Salinas, CA.
