From: [email protected] To whom it may concern, With the recent article in the NY newsday of the "Destroyer Escort Historical Society" attempts to raise funds for restorations of the USS Slater (returned by the Greek Navy). I've become curious as to the whereabouts and dispostion of my old ship the USS Greenwood DE679 and any surviving crew members. It was commissioned in 1943. I served on it in 1946-48 in the Carribean. It served with the USS Sicily CVE. Any information as to where I might start looking for info would be greatly appreciated. Yours truly Ken Knudsen. [email protected]. _______ Ken, Thanks for the inquiry and according to the information I have, the Greenwood was put into the Naval Reserve Force after Korea and decommissioned in 1958. She was stricken February 20, 1967 and sold on September 6 of that year. I am really interested in this article on the DE Historical Association. Do you have a copy or do you know how I can contact them? Thanks your your email Richard |
