ERNIE - RECEIVED YOUR LETTER OF 16 FEB 97. IT WAS WAITING FOR ME WHEN I
RETURNED FROM A SHORT VACATION. I SERVED IN THE NICHOLAS BIDDLE DD151
FROM NOV 27 1940 TO SEPT 10 1945. STARTING IN THE BLACKGANG AND LEAVING
HER AS A CHIEF YEOMAN TRANSFERRING TO THE USS WILLIAM WOOD DD715. I
BELIEVE YOUR DAD WAS A CREWMEMBER OF THE USS WILLIAM P. WOOD WHICH WAS A
SUPPLY SHIP. WE OFTEN RECEIVED EACH OTHERS MAIL WHICH WAS VERY
FRUSTRATING FOR BOTH CREWS. I WILL BE SENDING YOU A LIST OF THE CREW
MEMBERS WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONTACT IN ANY EVENT. THE MAIN REASON I
BELIEVE YOUR DAD WAS IN THE WILLIAM P. BIDDLE BECAUSE THE PICTURE WAS
TAKEN EITHER ON THE FORECASTLE OR MIDSHIP ON THE WELL DECK (BECAUSE OF
THE AWNING SUPPORT ACROSS THE TOP OF THE PICTURE AND THE WOODEN DECKING
AND OTHER GEAR SHOWN. THE NICHOLAS BIDDLE DD151 ESCORTED SOME OIL TANKERS
FROM BRAZIL TO NORTH AFRICA LATE IN 1944 BUT NEVER CROSSED THE EQUATOR.
I BELIEVE THE WILLIAM P. BIDDLE HAS REUNIONS AND I WILL TRY TO OBTAIN THE
ADDRESS FOR YOU. SORRY FOR THE BAD NEWS BUT KEEP IN TOUCH ANYWAY. ALL
THE BEST. PLS REPLY SO I KNOW YOU RECEIVED THIS NOTE. [email protected]
