On Dec 18, 2001 Jon Enslin sent me the following on Borne Chemical Company: Robert: You asked for information regarding Borne Chemical Company on your Standard Oil web-site. Here is what I know: Borne Chemical participated in a lot of "back-room" functions including waste oil recycling and petroleum blending. In the 1970s, in response to high petroleum prices, they saw an opportunity to acquire, recycle, and sell waste petroleum cheaper than it cost to purchase new petroleum from foreign sources. After investing a bunch of money into this process, petroleum prices dropped back down in the early 80s making the recycled waste oil business quite unprofitable. They declared backruptcy in 1984 but not after shareholders sued the company's board of directors causing quite a stir. The web-site you reference has to do with a decision during their bankruptcy proceedings dealing with some minute detail of bankruptcy law. Hope this helps.
