Trans-Canada Highway

The Trans-Canada Highway described here is the pre-1940 version of the road. Many sections have been maintained as parts of the current TCH, but lack of roads in the 1920s and 1930s caused this version to be routed in part through the United States. Any information about the history of the road, and when it was first planned, would be appreciated.
