PENN CENTRAL
One of the major yards in the New York metropolitan area is located in the swamps of New Jersey. Called Meadows yard after the Meadowlands name for the area, the yard served largely as a trailer train terminal for the PRR, PC, Conrail and still does for CSX and NS. In the mid-1980's, half was sold to NJ Transit and their main shops were built here. They occupy the area that was the locomotive storage area shown in most pictures on this page. Most of the photos shown here were taken from 1975 to 1980.
