MILWAUKEE ROAD
This page will cover the Chicago area with a few minor digressions.
First, a digression, This train is passing the Milwaukee-L & N (nee-Monon )
junction at Bedford, Indiana
enroute from Louisville, KY to Chicago. MILW had trackage rights from here
south to Louisville.
I just missed the era of the yellow E-units on the commuter trains, but even
this Metra F40 is now a
near memory. This is just outside Union Station as the MILW turns west and
passes under the CNW.
A four unit set of F-units are at the B & O Barr Yard service facility in Chicago. March 1976.
GP9m 975 powers a transfer at Franklin Park.
A modern EMD switcher is on the east end of Bensonville Yard. 1976.
546 is a SD9 at the engine house at Bensonville. March 1976.
2015 is one of many GP40's owned by the Milwaukee.
406 is a now out-of-service Fairbanks Morse road switcher.
402 is being stripped of parts. Note the huge snow pile on the adjacent SD40.
620 on a string of units at Bensonville.
GP40 2018 on a road set of power. I was lucky the area had no snow. March 14, 1976.
543 is a SD9 with some significant rebuild work.
EMD SW1000 487 and 482 work the yard. 1984.
These stored GP9's are sitting off in the weeds near the engine house.
Little numbers for some big units. A group of SD45's sit out of service. 1984.
Road power at the engine terminal, September 17, 1984.
SD40 130 with the new Hiawatha emblem on the nose.
GP40's 2034 and 2001 sit along the road next to the shop. The orange paint is fading fast.
This is view of the yard from 1992. The MILW is now history and the yard is owned by the CP/SOO.
The exotic stuff didn't leave with the Milwaukee's demise. Witness this
big MLW departing
with an eastbound in 1992.
