This page will cover the former New York Central mainline from Syracuse, NY to Cleveland, OH. Most images here are from the early 1980's to 1992. We will begin at the Amtrak station located in East Syracuse.
F40 352 brings an eastbound into East Syracuse.
A little later the Conrail Geometry Train rolls in. 2002 led this train all over the system.
A Conrail office car brings up the rear.
In the mid-1980's, GP40's ruled the piggy-back and early double stack trains.
A westbound manifest train pulls up next to the Geometry train.

A new Amtrak Genesis unit brings a late running Lake Shore Limited into
town. The old steam era coaling
towers were located next to the original mainline that ran straight through
downtown Syracuse. A by-pass was built to avoid
the elevated section of downtown. Portions of the old station remain along
a highway today.
Early morning finds this very lo-o-o-o-ong westbound departing the yard.
With nine units even this long train is quickly up to track speed passing the
NYS&W junction at C.P. 286
west of downtown.

It's a terrible shot, but three Amtrak painted E8's roll the Niagara Rainbow west on March 8, 1976.
5048 rolls westward through the remains of the closed yard at Batavia, NY.
F40 376 enroute to Buffalo with train # 63 passes the country side near Corfu, NY.

In a cool sequence, eastbound 6502 passes a stopped train with an old
PRR cabin car and meets a westbound with 3364 on the point.

ever seen is this eastbound literally flying through Conneaut, Ohio.
