CONRAIL

 

This page will cover the former New York Central mainline from Syracuse, NY to Cleveland, OH.  Most images here are from the early 1980's to 1992.  We will begin at the Amtrak station located in East Syracuse.

amt98syracuse.jpg (80206 bytes)  A new Amtrak Genesis unit brings a late running Lake Shore Limited into town.  The old steam era coaling
towers were located next to the original mainline that ran straight through downtown Syracuse.  A by-pass was built to avoid
the elevated section of downtown.  Portions of the old station remain along a highway today.
