Baltimore and Ohio

This very brief page will cover what most people call the 'Old Main'.  This was the original mainline from the
city of Baltimore west toward the Ohio River.

My coverage of this line is rather limited and was always something I had intended to get back to some day.
Operated today by CSX, this line remains very much in use.

through the town of Sykesville, MD on February 18, 1979.

bo7610Monocacy.jpg (75826 bytes)  Near the historical town of Monocacy is the junction of the Frederick branch.  The wye track just barely visible.

bo7572PointofRocks.jpg (88327 bytes)  bo7572PointofRocks2.jpg (77347 bytes)  A Western Maryland SD40 drags a dead C&O U25B west from Washington.  I finally gave up on
very dark grubby day.  The entire northeast got buried under another two feet of snow the next day.  From here it was a long four hour
drive home.  February 18, 1979.
