Glades County, the poorest county in FL, cannot repair the road (potholes, narrow shoulders, easily flooded, it would take 66 years to get $ to redo it). The county wants FDOT to take it back. But FDOT refuses because it has 1000 vehicles/day, mostly 18 wheelers. There are no signs on 35(US 17) yet warning of the closure, but cops were diverting traffic at the intersection with 31, so signs will probably appear there soon. (this was written 4-7-99)
