The USS EAGLE, a former yacht converted to a patrol boat, served in the North Atlantic Squadron during the Spanish American War. During the war, she shelled the Spanish battery at Rio Honda, and captured the Spanish merchant vessel SANTO DOMINGO. She carred two six pound guns, and had a crew of about 75 officers and men, under the command of W. H. H. Southerland.
