Below is the obituary for Edwin Haggard of the 6th Missouri Volunteer Infantry. He was buried at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery, Tucumcari, Quay County, New Mexico.



The Obituary:

Spanish War Vet Dies in Hospital

Edwin Alpheus Haggard,72 years old, a resident of Tucumcari since 1921, passed away at 7:25 Sunday evening. He had been a patient in the Tucumcari General Hospital for several weeks before his death.

Mr. Haggard is survived by his wife, Lenora, one daughter, Mrs.A. D. Gagnon, of San Diego, Calif.; one son, Maj. Edwin C. Haggard, of the United States Army, stationed in Denver, Colo.; one brother, Harvey C. Haggard of Kansas City ,Mo.,and one grand-son Dary Arthur Gagon, of San Diego, Calif.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a Spanish American War Veteran and a member of the local post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Haggard was known among his friends by the familiar cognomen of “Prof.” He enjoyed it and so did his friends. He was a retired Southern Pacific Railroad clerk, but ill health prevented active work for several years.

Funeral services were held at 10 Tuesday forenoon, the Rev. W.D. Lawes, officiating. Burial was in Tucumcari Memorial Park. The Doughty Funeral Home had charge of the services.

Active pall bearers, selected from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, were R.L. Butler, Fred S. Witty, Sr.,Charles McKinnon, Don Lebow, S.J. Wyckoff and E.E.Rivers.

Honorary pall bearers were L. H. Morrison, M.M.Shipley,Dave Pittman, Chester Rogers, W.A. Thrasher, G.G. Leigon and Harry K. Grubbs.
