Below is the obituary for Ira John Briscoe of the 4th Texas Volunteer Infantry, Co. L. He was buried at Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery, Tucumcari, Quay County, New Mexico.

Ira John Briscoe,79 pioneer resident of Tucumcari and QuayCounty,and Spanish American War veteran,died at 12:20 a.m.Monday in his ranch home south of Tucumcari, after an extended illness.

He is survived by his widow, Omega Briscoe,and a son, Jack, of Tucumcari.  2 sisters, Mrs. C.B. Payne, El Paso Tex., and Mrs. Alice Davis, Arlington, Tex.: 2 brothers, James L. Briscoe,Tucumcari, and W.H. Briscoe, Lewellen , Nebraska.: 2 grandsons and several nieces and nephews. Briscoe came to New Mexico in 1898 and Homesteaded south of Tucumcari.

He was very active and prominent in New Mexico Territorial and state affairs. He served as Registrar of the United States Land Office in Tucuncari,served 2 terms as Quay County Sheriff.

He was a Past State Commander of the Spanish American War Veterans, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the First Christian Church, Tucumcari.

The body is in state in the Doughty Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10:30 in Doughty Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Tom Pendergrass, pastor  of the First Christian Church officiating, assisted by John Briscoe,ministerial student and grandson of Briscoe.

Pall Bearers will  be John Briscoe,Glenn Briscoe, Lonnie Horton,Fred Fields, Ira Parker and Dave Watts.

Interment will be in the family plot in Tucumcari Memorial Park, with Delfido-Gonzales Post No. 2528, Veterans of Foreign Wars,in charge of the military rites in the cemetery, with Doughty Funeral Home in charge of arrangments.
